For lathe applications that require the workpiece to be precisely positioned against a Z datum in the chuck, a spring-loaded tool mounted in the turret can more accurately locate the workpiece in the chuck. Although the Lathe Automation System can use the robot’s force feature while clamping the chuck on the workpiece during the load process, robot force has limitations. Using a spring-loaded tool mounted in the lathe turret improves the accuracy of workpiece seating against a Z datum in the chuck.
The tool is modular and includes adapters of 1.75″ and 4″ to accommodate a wide range of workpiece sizes.
