Spindle Hours Are the Scoreboard

The Only Measurement That Tells the Truth

spindle hours are the scoreboard

You can measure a lot of things in a CNC shop.

Parts per day.
Labor utilization.
Setup time.
On-time delivery.

But there’s one number that tells the truth:

Spindle hours.

If spindle isn’t cutting, the shop isn’t producing.

Everything else is noise.

Busy shops track activity.
Productive shops protect spindle time.

That means identifying the constraint — the one thing limiting how often the spindle is actually running — and fixing that first.

More meetings don’t increase spindle hours.
More dashboards don’t increase spindle hours.
Even more robots won’t increase spindle hours — if they’re aimed at the wrong problem.

Throughput follows spindle time.

That’s the scoreboard.

If you’re not sure what’s limiting yours…
